Apple has approved AyeTides XL 1.0.3 and it should be appearing shortly in the App Store and iTunes, if it's not there already. It's a free update for existing users and fixes the problem with iOS 4.2.1 and iNavX, along with a few interface tweaks and improvements.

Next year I am going to sail the FastNet Race. This means I will not be in reach of GSM or UMTS signals. I normally use these to download GRIB files over the internet.

Does anybody know if there are other ways to get access to GRIB files on the Mac, apart from expensive satellite phones?

I am establishing how to acquire charts for use with MacENC in European waters. Obviously I have the Navionics, but that means buying, in my case, charts for the whole of the UK for $299, even though I am not planning to go north for a long while. I will be just south of the area limit for a couple of weeks, which would call for another $299. Once purchased Navionics charts are not updated, I gather.

I am seriously considering AVCS charts from the UK Hydrographic Office, as I can buy permits for just the areas I need for as little as 3 months. Weekly updates are included. But the AVCS coverage at large scale port level is mainly for commercial ports, and does not look like it gives detail of minor creeks and harbours. For these I need to infill with raster charts. I can buy individual ARCS raster charts issues by the UK Hydrographic Office, but these are in HCRF format. Can MacENC read these?
Anyone got any suggestions?

I've downloaded weather GRIB files to MacENC via satphone (MacENC>Mail>XGate>Iridium>SailDocs and back). If I retire my MacBook in favor of an iPad with iNavX, will I still be able to do this? If so, what components will be required?

(That should be another arrow between XGate and Iridium - I'm unable to fix it.)

Just installed Xgate on my MBPRO and trying to set up at best.
The system seems slow due to unknown app or software or system eating band-wide. I run little snitch monitor to see activity and the only one I find is from mdnsresponder. After a search in internet i found how to stop it but then it stops all internet access (including Xgate) } so I put it back.
Any idea on where ever else I can look to just stop all internet access?

Just bought iNavX because it looks like the greatest navigation app out there for the iPad. I'm also using GPSNavX since a couple of years and am thinking about upgrading to MacENC (is there an upgrade price?).

I have a bunch of raster charts (.KAP) that I've been using with GPSNavX that I now also want to use on iNavX (they don't need any activation). Having realized that there is no file exchange with iNavX via iTunes, I thought X-Traverse would let me share files with iNavX and got an account (needed anyways to purchase charts so no big deal - even though I think X-Traverse should charge the companies that sell the charts and not the customer, but that's a topic for another day...).

Unfortunately it seems like charts cannot be shared that way. I couldn't upload my chart to X-Traverse, just got an undefined error and the X-Traverse app doesn't accept .KAP files.

So my question: How can I use my existing charts with iNavX?

There are a few things you can do when using iNavX in low light conditions:

1) Adjust brightness on the device. On iPad double-tap the home button and slide task bar left to find brightness control. On iPhone, select "Settings" then "Brightness". "Brightness" can also be adjusted in the iNavX "Preferences" accessed on the main menu.

2) Select iNavX then "Preferences" then "Night View (Red Filter)" to "ON".

3) When a chart is displayed, select "Setup" then "Night View" to "ON".

4) When a chart is displayed, select the Maximize button.
