It has been indicated to me by a "Guru" in one of the Apple Centres, that it is no longer possible to use Serial drivers to power an adapter into the USB socket of the latest MacBooks, i.e. those running under OS 10.8.2
Comments would be most welcome?

Have you learned any more on this?
I see you have no replies and sorry to say I don't know the answer as my boat is in the islands with a Keyspan 4 port serial USB adapter and I am typing on a Mac Book Air running 10.8.2 in Florida.....
My MacBook on board with an earlier OS works fine but I wonder if I will face this issue with my new "Air?"
Best,
John

No, not at the present moment. I bought a fresh adaptor from Maplins (UK electronics shops) they were not sure it would work, but thought I'd give it a try - if no joy, I'll give NASA a call, they're usually pretty helpful.

I am using a late 2008 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.4 and have no problems using a KeySpan serial to USB adaptor to connect a Garmin GPS.
