The GPS does not need a cell or WiFi connection, but it sure helps to have one to get a much quicker position fix.

Allows the iPhone GPS to be used as the GPS receiver for MacENC.

Setup:

1) Launch GPS 2 IP on your iPhone

2) Set to "ON"

3) Launch MacENC

4) Select "TCP/IP" on the "GPS" menu

5) Enter the IP Address shown in GPS 2 IP in the MacENC TCP/IP NMEA Data Client Host (i.e. 10.0.1.8)

6) Enter the Port shown in GPS 2 IP in the MacENC TCP/IP NMEA Data Client Port (i.e. 11123)

7) Select "Enable" in the MacENC TCP/IP NMEA Data Client

8) If the connection is successful the circular indicator in MacENC TCP/IP NMEA Data Client will turn green AND the GPS 2 IP Connected clients will list your Macs IP address (i.e. 10.0.1.6)

9) To see the lat/lon/sog/cog select "Connect" on the MacENC "GPS" menu. Set the Type to IP Only in the GPS panel Settings drawer.

GPS 2 IP has the option to run in the background. This is selected in the GPS 2 IP "Settings".


Note: While this is a solution, we still prefer a USGlobalSat BU-353 USB GPS for Mac use.

I can get waypoints to transfer via NMEA both to and from MacEnc to my Raymarine RC435. However, I can only receive routes. When I try to send routes from MacEnc nothing appears on the RC435 route list.

Has anyone got this to work?

Hello Forum, I wanted to solicit some help and recommendations for optimizing my PowerBook 12" for the best a fastest operation of MacENC. The system is 10.4.11 and it has 1.25gb ram. I plan to remove all but the very basic software (MacENC, Mr. Tides, safari, Nocturn, and all required drivers for kensington serial/usb, actisense NMEA 2000, Comar Multi AIS). Any recommendations for optimizing this mac would be welcomed. It will be dedicated to Nav work and only Nav related web uses. No Mail client, word processing etc.

I have been teaching marine gps/chartplotting for a few years and following the industry with much interest. I must say how impressed I am with the iNavX solution on the iPad. Got the iPad this afternoon and a few hours later I am up and running with iNavX/AyeTides/X-Traverse Canadian charts. Well done.

Now for the very stupid question. Can the GPS positioning function be turned off on the iPad, for example while planning waypoints and routes? I can't find reference to that in the manuals -- must be missing it. Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm new here. My father's just completed on our first yacht, and we're having to get some things on it this weekend.

He's seen the light with the iPad and wants to install a system compatible, but of course we need to start at the beginning. The boat currently has no wind detector, or depth sounder - and at least the latter will be required for our first sail (we're moving to a marina that's a little, well, worrying to get to without one!)

I've been having a look around and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. What I want is a transducer/panel (multifunction pref) combo that we can stick in the boat straight away, but one that'll be compatible with iPad solutions (NMEA compatible I guess?)...

...and I'm just not sure how to begin.

Any help would be much appreciated, even just for starting out with the depth sounder solution, so we know we're not buying something that'll be useless to us in two months!

Hi,

I came across the iMux made by Brookhouse Electronics. Their info page show an iPad using iNavX communicating directly to NMEA devices with out the need for a PC. It's a bit pricey at $300, but if one want to use a non-3G iPad, then getting NMEA gps info make the non-3G run iNavX like a 3g iPad.

Has anyone used or heard of this device?
