Is anyone using a good mac hurricane tracking software? I use global tracks, which is great, but it's PC based. I'd love to not have to switch to bootcamp to use it. Global Tracks software allows you to import the Nat'l Hurricane Center auto e-mails with the predicted coordinates, then you can plot your boat & see how close or far the hurricane is predicted to get to your location. Easy, at a glance visual. Anyone using mac software that does this?

I tried the x-traverse app last night to download free NOAA charts to my mac. It appeared to download in excess of 25GB of data for the North East district before I stopped it. I had 77GB free but it was chewing it up quickly.
I'm only interested in the raster charts. I'm assuming it was also downloading vector charts given the space it was sucking up. Anyone know a way to constrain the download using the x-traverse app to raster charts only?

I think the addition of Active Captain would be an excellent feature for iNavX for the iPad. More than 14 navigation software/apps now feature Active Captain as part of their product... and since Active Captain is available at no cost it would seem to be a logical move for iNavX to include it in a future upgrade.

I love iNavx and have now used it for several cruises and overnight distance races.

I have experienced a problem, though. I was navigating a route with 34 way points and the app crashed on me - several times, actually. Not sure exactly why, however, when I opened it again, I had to restart my route all over and click "next" a number of times to get back to my current leg.

It would be nice if I could select a waypoint on the route and continue from that point. (Or is this functionality already there and I've missed it?)

It would be even nicer if I hadn't experienced the crashes. I'm running an iPad 1 3G/64, iOS 4.3.3, iNavx 3.2.5 (just updated to 3.2.6, but have not used it yet).

Especially you should check out the alarms.
There are many preconfigured alarms either showing a popup, coloring the display or playing a sound.

I do not understand the 'AREA' GRIB parameter in iNavX Forecast.

The options are 20 , 30 , 40 degrees.
The documentation does not address this.
I am used to specifying a rectangle of interest by giving two sets of bounding values for lat and long.

I have been under the mistaken impression that the GFS GRIBS were limited to three specified regions but I now realize that this was my misreading of the documentation. The documentation has GFS and COAMPS information sort of mashed up in the same paragraph and the limitation only applies to COAMPS, but I misread it.

My laptop based solutions on XP and OSX are: airmail, ugrib, zygrib, and grib-view.

Would love to hear a developers point of view on GRIB implementation and selection of Wx models to support.

Suggest that Polar Navy include in their list of supported charts the Brasilian Raster Charts that are available free just as USA charts are available free.

I'm sorry that my first contribution is about an issue many have surely already solved.

MacEnc 8.3 has a window for alerts, that show up in my case for AIS. A few days ago, I unchecked the alarm settings in this window, so that I would not be disturbed while getting into the harbor.

Now I want to check the alarm settings, but I can't find any menu to open this alert window (and, no, i'm not talking about macenc preferences windows).

Would anybody be able to help me on that ?
