Hi... I just downloaded iNavX to my iPhone and the first time I tried to get the charts San Diego to Aleutian Islands and Hawaiian Islands , I got "Unable to Download ... (timed out). The World Chart downloaded just fine.

Help anyone?

The new version of Memory-Map was released. It's now in universal binary format supporting both the iPhone and iPad with the same purchase. I wrote more information about it in the iPad forum section:

Although the chief new feature is iPad support, they snuck in some really nice features for all platforms like course-up rotation, one of the features I think needs to be on all boating navigation apps.

The latest version of Memory-Map has been released in Universal Binary format supporting both the iPhone and iPad. If you want raster charts on your iPad, this program has a pretty good user-interface and costs less than other raster navigation iPad products for the iPhone/iPad.

I found a couple of quotes interesting in their article:
"GPSNavX were also quick off the mark to release their marine navigation application iNavX for the iPad. This really showed the capabilities of the iPad. Although the iNavX app does not use all the new features of the iPad UI it does show what can be done with it. I am sure that over time the interface will evolve to take advantage of the new layouts and pop-overs."

This has been my findings too. Memory-Map has a pretty nice user experience due to a pretty good user-interface. I find it much simpler to do the things I want and feel less frustration doing it. Memory-Map should be tried. There's a free version of Memory-Map too which costs nothing to experiment with. One issue with the App Store is that there is no ability to get a refund once you purchase software. Having a free version provides a fantastic ability to evaluate the product before spending any money, especially for more expensive apps.

A couple of other features of the new Memory-Map:

- Allows route creation and editing on the device itself.

- Auto-rotate provides course up orientation.

- Import and export of GPX files.



I'm especially pleased to see course-up rotation and the ability to lock the rotation too. Although it doesn't seamlessly quilt the charts together, it does a nice job of providing the most essential features that most boaters will want.

If you want raster charts, my opinion is that this is the winning product almost any way you slice it.

I'm new to using my Mac onboard. We're an all Mac family and currently have all Garmin equipment on our PS40. I'd like to be able to do more planning for our cruising next Fall - creating routes, examining ports, and general planning. Then I'd like to bring the Mac onto the boat and use those routes on the Garmin. Is this possible? I see Garmin software for Windows but not for the Mac. How can I do this?

Am I the only one that is frustrated with the lack mac software for SSB communications and the use of a pactor modem.

There is great software for navigation but nothing for SSB communications.

Without this missing communications piece getting filled in (without doing work arounds like running bootcamp and Windows) the mac adoption is not reaching its full potential.

Anyone else agree or I am missing something.

I called AT&T on Friday and they were not too helpful, but did open a trouble ticket. Will call back tomorrow to see if they have any resolution.

Let me know if you can get on NOAA.gov from Safari over AT&T on iPhone 3Gs or iPad 3G.

It looks like Apple released the Navionics HD iPad products for US regions. The US regions are coming in at $19.99, about double the price of the iPhone products.

It seems like a pretty good price - I was expecting it to be in the $50 price range. I wonder if this is an introductory price or if it is going to be the ongoing US region price.

Current reviews in the App Store for the US East region are ungodly poor. It appears that the product has some crashing issues.

Will I be able to run CM93 charts on my Mac using MacENC?

Hello All:

We are exploring the possibility of doing a Video Mirror of our Macbook running ENC from the Nav Station below deck to a remote display at the wheel in the cockpit.

Can anyone recommend / suggest:

1) Is this concept feasible?

2) If yes, a quality waterproof / weatherproof display 8 to 10 inches in size?

3) Is it best to hardwire the setup from the Macbook using the Mini Display Port?

Appreciate any insight you can provide.
