just adding GPS functionality (via Bad Elf, etc.) to my measily iPad (1st gen) and then purchasing iNavx to have a fully functional chartplotter on my boat?

Any advice that anyone can offer to help me find the difference in the maps here would be much appreciated.

I bought a Navionics map.

I bought the "S6 HotMaps Premium South" map in order to have a map (mostly) of the TN River in North Alabama.

I could have opted to buy the "1XG USA and North Bahamas"

Does anyone navigating inland rivers in AL/MS have both? I would appreciate a comparison, if possible.

I'm new to this product, so no advice or opinion is too elemetary for me. Any and all help is appreciated.

I just purchased iNavx for iPad. I bought a map from x-traverse, 1XG USA & N. Bahamas.

I go on my iPad, and after pressing "Update Chart List," I go to a download screen where 1XG USA & N.Bahamas displays temporarily and then the following message appears:

WARNING
1XG USA & N. Bahamas Unavailable
Please Upgrade www.x-traverse.com account

When I go to the x-traverse site, it says my device hasn't been activated.

Anyone seen this before? No tech support on weekends.

I just noticed last night that the navionics ap with the Google Earth overlay shows only shoal water (<20M) from the vector charts. The rest, including deep water, is aerial photos.
I like it. You only want to know about shallow water anyway, and the shoal areas really stand out in contrast to the "ocean."

So I know there has been a lot of b!tching about not being able to import files (GRIBs, routes, waypoints) via cable from a Mac/PC but with the inclusion of e-mail as an option, that for me has become moot. However I still found it cumbersome to download GRIBs and email them to myself for import. It worked, so I accepted it. However I just stumbled across something new to me. Direct import of GRIBs from Safari into iNavX!! I just happened to see what would happen if I clicked on a link to a GRIB. Then the most amazing thing happened (again at least to me), the GRIB "opened" in a new Safari page and then instead of gibberish, it changed to the "Open in iNavX" icon!! I clicked it and it imported! No more e-mailing GRIBs to myself, no more dealing with X-Traverse, I am self reliant again. THANK YOU for this "undocumented" feature. Please never fix it :-)

I tested directly on my iPhone4 and my iPad2 tethered to my iPhone, both were flawless!

To improve visibility in bright daylight, it would help if the main menu buttons along the bottom of the display had better contrast. They are very hard to see on the iPad 2 as it is now.

When turning off lighthouses ("visa navutrustning" in the Swedish localization) not only the lighthouse sector lines disappear, but also the lighthouses themselves. Since lighthouses are helpful for daytime navigation it would be nice if the lighthouses remain visible when turning off sector lines.

The Swedish translation is a disaster. How can I add corrections?

I immediately get "Disconnected" in the console every time I try with the login information provided in the instructions. My area is supposed to have coverage (near SE Lysekil/Smögen)

I'm not new to technology but am very new to NMEA networks so sorry in advance for some dumb questions.

I have Gamin NMEA 2000 wind and GPS instruments currently connected to a Garmin GMI 10 display.

I also have a TMQ Autopilot that uses NMEA 0183. (currently connected to no other devices)

Sooo what is the best way to put MacENC on my macbook air into this equation?

Do I need to buy both a NMEA2000 to USB and a NMEA0183 to USB? Or is there a smart way to multiplex and convert so that the computer only sees all 2000 or al 0183?
