USB/Serial drivers for OS 8?

Got myself a new MacBook Pro a couple of weeks ago, had OS 8 installed on it.
Trying to use the NASA AIS input, cannot get any result. Surmise the problem may be a fresh serial driver is required. Tried installing one but that brought no success. Are any good ones available - or other ideas? The driver hardware is badged "Lindy" BTW.
Thanks, Philip

Applescript and MacENC

I use an Applescript program to control MacENC so position data are taken only when needed. Reduces power consumption on the Mac at least 4-fold. The script is available on request. A question: What information does the Applescript command canConnect check? If the GPS unit momentarily stops transmitting position data, for example, would canConnect return as FALSE?

I am new to Macsailing. I have an iPad that I use for navigation running INavX. My boat is a 36 foot Lancer and I need to add/replace all of my navigational and sensory gear.
In reading a lot of forums, I probably need a SeaSmart from Chetco to connect the NEMA devices to the iPad. I have also seen the DMK recommended, but does with work with both NEMA 2000 and 0183 devices?
My questions are:
What are the best options for auto pilot, radar, depth, speed, etc? Also, should I install an external GPS antenna and if so what type (I have 3G and a GPS antenna in the iPad).
Thanks

At first I have to apologize for my English. I am from Germany and don`t speak English very often.
I use iNavX on my iPad for a few weeks. It works great. But one function I don't understand. When creating a route, there is a button DISTANCE. What is this button for. When I press it, I can't see a difference.
Thanks for your help!
Greetings from Flensburg
Michael

web-ais.net connection?

Last night I discovered how to configure inavx.web-ais.net as an NMEA client to display AIS targets on charts. However, the server appears to be down today; I can't connect via iNavX with the bookmarked configuration settings (I get a timeout), nor can I connect via a test Telnet connection. Anyone know who to ask/notify that the server is down?
