The new SailTimer Wind Vane is solar-powered and wireless. That makes it easy to install, because there are no wires to run down the mast and through the boat. It also comes with U-bolts for easy mounting on a stern rail or stanchion until the masthead is accessible.

The vane sends wind information by radio signal to a small base unit, which converts the data to standard NMEA format for marine electronics.  The base unit runs on AA batteries, and transmits the NMEA data to the iOS device by wifi.

Although the SailTimer Wind Vane may look like a simple device in a hi-res photo, it has some amazing engineering built in.  It has moving parts and is waterproof (no mean feat), but the internal software also leads to some pretty intelligent behavior.  The vane spends most of its time asleep.  But it wakes itself up every 8 seconds to see if anything wants to talk to it.  If a user is detected, the Wind Vane stays awake but transmits for just a few milliseconds each time to save power.  The vane can actually run for about 65 days on a full battery charge.  It can recharge 8 hours of sailing usage with 1 hour of direct sunlight.

I am confused.

I have a Raymarine E80 system with an AIS 650 transceiver.

All the instrument data is forwarded to the AIS on NMEA 0183 at low speed. The AIS multiplexes the instrument data, adds the AIS data (I guess), and it is outputted to the E80 via 0183 high speed.

The AIS box has an USB output, but Polar Com only seems to tease out some GPS data. No instruments, no AIS data.

My goal would be to have all the Raymarine data at Polar Navy, and for Polar Navy to talk back too.

How can I do this?

There seems to be a problem with duplicate topics and posts being displayed on the homepage when you're not logged in.

If you log in, the problem seems to resolve. This appears to be a presentation issue.. there's no corruption to the backend database.

On my G4 Powerbook, I have many wps & routes in GPSNavX and want to get them over to my MacBook Pro.

Rather than sending them one-by-one in the Transfer drop-down menu, can I do them all at once by simply copying the files: home/library/preferences/GPSNavX/waypoints.plist and Home/library/preferences/GPSNavX/routes.plist to the other MacBook Pro?

The one-by-one method would take forever.

I would also like to do this with MacENC on the G4

I'm afraid to do this without one of you folks saying it's OK.

If you're having problems logging into MacSailing after the recent site upgrade, it may a problem related to cookies in Safari.

In Safari > Preferences, select Privacy.

Click on the small "Details" button. Then search for macsailing within your Safari cookies

Click on "Macsailing.net" and then choose Remove and Done.

Restart Safari, and you should be able to log on without issue.

At long last, we'll shortly be upgrading the MacSailing.net forum software, FusionBB to the latest and greatest version. This upgrade process will take place over the next few days and may result in some down time.

Looking for feedback from anyone who has used the Dual XGPS 150A with a Macbook or Ipad.

Hi, Recently installed Navionics XG28 on my ipad supported by iNavx. Works great but i do now find out that there are no vector charts starting Littlehampton (English Channel) further west, clockwise around the UK including the Irish Sea. As from the Scottisch 'border' i do have vector charts again. I did already a few chart refreshments but no succes. Anybody any idea what's going on ?

Practical Sailor article says you can make the Mac do this, so you can use your iPad with it. How do ya make the Mac act as a router?
