I recently purchased the Keyspan USA-19HS adapter so that I can connect GPSNavX to my Garmin 3205. I can connect my MacBook Pro (OS 10.7.4) to the GPS and I can read position information. I can even load waypoints into the GPS. But when I load a route, GPSNavX crashes.

I have tried...
1. I saw the post about using the beta driver on Tripp Lite's site for OS 10.7. No difference.

2. I have tried the setup using both the Garmin mode and Other mode in GPSNavX. In Garmin mode, I get to the screen where it asks you for the route number. After that, I see the software report that it is connecting to a Garmin 3205, then it crashes. In Other mode, it says the upload completes. On the GPS, I see the waypoint for the route, but no route.

3. I have cleared out all of the previous routes/waypoints out of my GPS. No difference.

4. I have tried NMEA In/NMEA Out and NMEA High Speed modes on the GPS. No difference.

5. I have looked at the NMEA Setup menu on the GPS and enabled all of the NMEA command options. No difference.

The only other thing I noticed is that the firmware of my device is version 2.5. I see that the latest version is 3.7. That would be my next step to see if that helps.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of things I should try? Thanks!

I have an Islander 28 sailboat and I'm looking to upgrade my electronics a bit. I have MacGPS, a serial cabled Garmin GPS48, and Autohelm instruments with SeaTalk run to a jumped connection box. I have iNavx on my phone. The GPS48 will not receive routes now for some obscure reason.

I like having the GPS at the helm. An IPad just can't be mounted, or read well, in my small cockpit. I want to continue to use the Autohelm instruments, except that the ST4000 wheelpilot seems to have lost it's mind and may need to be replaced.

I want to add an inexpensive AIS system as well.

I see some recommendations for the Garmin GPS78 and it looks pretty good. Will it work wirelessly with my MacBook, or must it be used over a serial/usb cord? Is it better to just get a small cheap bluetooth GPS to feed the MacBook/AIS system? Is it possible to have an AIS overlay feed to the GPS78 at the wheel?

From there I'm a bit lost on what to buy or how to put it together.

Would appreciate some ideas...

Any news on this? As far as I am aware, MacENC cannot send derived route data (Bearing to Waypoint, etc.) out onto a NMEA2000 network because Actisense have not yet given their interface the ability to transfer data from USB to NMEA2000. This is stopping me having MacENC-derived route data displayed on my Garmin cockpit displays, which are NMEA2000 interfaced.

May be Actisense have progressed this? But I have not heard anything for a long time.

When i set the Heading to Magnetic in the Preferences-Panel of MACEnc the COG Course in the GPS-Window change to Magnetic instead of the Heading. Is this correct? I would expect that the Heading would be changed and the COG don't.

I would appreciate any advise you can give me.

Hi all,

Sorry for the banality of this question but I can't work the best way to get charts for MacENC. I've poked around xtraverse but I can't make heads or tails of it. Are there simpler ways to buy charts for MacENC?

Ideally I'm after a large scale south pacific/oceania chart for passage planning. Raster or Vector is not important to me.

Hope someone can help me out.
