I have been navigating with MacENC for two months and I am most annoyed with the way the application is always placing the ship in the middle of the map window as soon as a GPS is connected. When I want to do some navigation under way, I end up having to quit MacENC, disconnect my USB cable and relaunch MacENC. It would make much more sense to have a "Find Ship"/"Find Cursor" toggle switch in the mapping window, much like Raymarine does, to allow the user to check more maps than just its surroundings while under way...

Thinking about the unfolding Aegean tragedy today, and still wiring up all the new toys on my boat.
I'm just wondering what the feasibility is for a chartplotter/program to sound an alarm at a set proximity from, and/or collision course with, a charted object (not just an AIS target?)

I'm a very happy user of iNavX.
Currently I'm looking into the availability of apps for iPad offering logbook functionality.
These seem to be available, but al they offer is some kind of forms in which I can fill all kind of data, eg weather, position, wind, course, etc..
Now my question: could it be an idea to expand iNavX with a logbook functionality?
All kind of data is available already through wifi.
Say you can press a button "add to logbook" every hour and all availlable data is stored in a logbook item to which I then can add some lines of text and a picture. The presentation of the data can be simple at first and could be developed through time to look better.
What is your idea about this?

I note that someone's reverse engineered the BR24 protocol.

Would love to see MacENC support this - to the extent that I'd contribute some code or even $. Anyone else interested in this?

I've just wrote a script, which automatically saves attached grib and opens it in MacENC, so that you don't need to check for mails and browse for a saved file.
Gribs are saved on desktop to the folder GRIBs. You need to configure your Mail app:
1. to check for mail every 5 minutes
2. to run this script upon receiving mail from gribs sender (or every mail)

When you configure everything, you just need to request a grib in MacENC menu and continue to navigate. The requested weather data will appear on your screen upon receiving.

I use MacENC to feed NMEA data to iNavX.

Each time I set up my MacBook to create the on-board WiFi network which iNavX will use to collect the data, it seems to use a different TCP/IP address, which I then have to enter into iNavX on my iPhone and iPad. This is rather tedious, especially if I forgot to do this before setting sail.

Other programs that link by WiFi to my Mac use Bonjour to find the Mac program by name. Any chance iNavX and MacENC could do likewise? It would really simplify things.

I'm stuck: connected GX2150 Standard Horizon AIS Radio to SH SmartAntenna. All working fine at the Radio - I can see ships, position, etc.

Connected via Keyspan Serial-USB adapter (USA 19HS) to Mac. Solid Green light on the Keyspan, Red light in the GPS dialogue box within GPSNavX.

I'm doing, or not doing, something simple......

I'm having problems getting iNavx on my iPad 3 to work with the ShipModul MiniPlex 2Wi I just installed. All the hardware seems fine - the MiniPlex data LED flashes green. The iPad recognizes the WiFi network and obtains an IP address with DHCP just fine. The MiniPlex WiFi LED lights up to indicate it has established a WiFi connection.

However, when I go into iNavx Preferences and set the NMEA Client settings as in the documentation, I get a TCP Connection timeout. It keeps trying, but never connects. No NMEA data appears in the console window.

The MiniPlex WiFi LED is supposed to blink when a TCP connection is established, however it remains steady, so it also does not believe it is connected.

Any ideas on what to try?

Hi,
I am currently in Panama City, there is a canal here so there is lots of ship traffic. I can see more than 150 ships on both sides of the canal. I have some questions:
1) AIS Proximity Alarm: Is that on CPA? It should be CPA.
1a) I would like to type in a value in the number box, not just click the arrows.
2) Indicate with a small vector line on the chart which targets are too close on CPA.
3) Right click on target in chart to get info.
4) Select in AIS window should highlight target on chart.
5) When I click OK on the visual alarm does the alarm trigger on other targets?
6) Managing 150 targets is a challenge.
